So Far In January....

Things have been pretty calm around our house this month. I have been sick for most of the month with Strep throat. It was really bad and I did nothing, but sleep. Kevin was very good at taking care of me. My throat felt better, but it was still sore and my voice has been pretty scratchy. This past week it started to hurt again swallowing so I went to the doctor again and guess what... I have Strep again! They are not sure if it ever went away or if I might be a carrier for Strep. So when I am finished with this round of meds I need to go back to the doctor when I feel all better to see if I am a carrier. Cross your fingers that I'm not.

Other news, I have been a good bridesmaid and have gotten my dresses for both Taylor and Ana's weddings. They are both very cute dress. Kevin has gotten more students at the Academy bringing up the total to 16 students! On a happy note, Kevin and I are one step closer to crossing off one of our things to do in 2011. We have booked our trip to Hawaii in March! That sums up our life for the past few weeks and we hope to have a more exciting post in the near feature.

Latest Painting Project...

One of my cute little green lawn chairs for my classroom library broke this school year. Somehow a screw broke in half that connected the seat of the chair to the leg making if unfixable. Well, this time of the year lawn chairs are not being sold and granted that I got these chairs three years ago, I am not going to find a matching chair. So now the hunt was on to find new chairs!

Mom suggested that I should find some cheap old chairs and paint them. I had done this for my teaching chair and it was a fun project that turned out really cute. My teaching chair...

I took my mom's suggestion and she found some little red chairs with a cute shape to them. We got them sprayed white and then the fun part began. I painted them similar to my teaching chair and since these chairs are made out of wood they should have a long life in my classroom!

In the classroom library...

My class loves that they now have chairs that look like mine! I had a lot of fun painting them and I am thinking about making this into a little side business... painting kids furniture. So if you have any old pieces of children's furniture I would love to take it off of your hands or if you have a project for me let me know and lets get started on it!

Deer Season

Kevin has been anticipating deer season for quite some time now. Installing game cameras and seeing what is out there has made my hunter very excited about the possibilities that this deer season will bring.

During opening weekend, Kevin and his dad were out in full force ready to get a deer and it was a successful weekend. Kevin was about to shoot a doe when a very large buck came into the picture. I'll let you guess what Kevin ended up shooting and yes, we will be getting it mounted European style.

Here is Kevin with his 10 pointer...

Adam joined Kevin in his second hunting trip of the year. This time, it was Adam that shot a 10 pointer and Kevin enjoyed his time in the blind.

Thanksgiving was the next round of hunting trips. This time, I took part in deer season and joined Kevin in the blind for one trip. We didn't see anything when I tagged along. Allison, Kevin's cousin, shot an 7 pointer and Kevin decided not to shoot anything this trip.

Kevin and me in the blind...

In January, Kevin took his final hunting trip of the season with my brother Andrew. Between Kevin, Andrew, and Kevin's dad they shot a total of six deer. It was work processing the deer, but worth it.

Goodbye 2010 & Hello 2011

Well, it has been a year since I created our blog and I can confidently say that it is a success. Updates are made on a pretty regular basis and I have really enjoyed having a blog. This past year I have taken more pictures and I have a new hobby. Even if no one reads our blog, Kevin and I have enjoyed looking back at past posts. Sometimes you just forget things and when you think you really haven't done much you are able to see that in reality, you really have.

On New Years Eve, Kevin and I made a list of our top 10 highlights of the past year and things we want to do in the upcoming year. Yes, I know this is silly, but it was fun to make. We will see if we accomplish everything from our 2011 list!

Wrapping Up Our Christmas Break....

Christmas break went by very fast and can be summed up by saying that our two weeks off were spent with family. It was nice to spend lots of quality time with multiple family members.

Here is a sum up...
Friday school ends. Drive up to Arlington on Saturday. Stay in Arlington for 4 days. Head back to San Antonio and Jennifer and Curtis come to town. Spend time with the Kilgores and drive to Austin for Christmas Eve. Jennifer and Curtis in town for 4 days. One day of Kevin and Erin time. Kevin's parents and sister come to San Antonio for 3 days. New Years Eve, New Years Day, one day left of break, and back to school.

Kevin's family has not made a trip to San Antonio in a very long time and we were glad that they could come and see our house decorated for Christmas. It was a fast visit, but we still managed to do a lot of things- play games, went to see where Kevin works, and venture downtown to the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk was packed with the bowl game going on, but we eventually found a parking garage that was not full, had a bite to eat, and went on a barge tour. The barge tours are always a lot of fun during Christmas time with all of the lights and we even went on a new part of the river that I had never been on.

The past two weeks have been a perfect time to relax and become rejuvenated for the second semester of school.
