Spring's a Buzzing

Happy Spring! The weather is warming up and our schedule is getting busy again. This weekend was no exception. We started our weekend by having date night at Alamo Drafthouse. We went to see Adjustment Bureau. It was pretty good and kept you on your toes.

Saturday was jam-packed and was spent going from one end of town to another. While Kevin was left at home to work in the yard, I went to an Entertaining Bridal Shower for Taylor. The shower was in Boerne at Boerne Wine Company. When we got there, we all got a card that looked like a hotel room key. When you used the key, you could choose what kind of wine you wanted and there were so many choices! Then you could decide if you wanted a slip, half glass, or full glass. It was so much fun! I definitely want to go back and try the other wines.

That evening we went to Dave and Busters for a surprise birthday party for Kevin's friend, Kevan, who turned 30. After dinner we played a few games and then met up with Ana and Adam for drinks. It is not very often that these two are in San Antonio so it is always a must to get together when they are.

On Sunday, we drove up to Austin to visit/work with Nana and Pawpaw. Kevin lended his handyman skills to help prep the kitchen for a remodel. We spent the day taking down wallpaper and cleaning the walls. Kevin did a little demolition work and took down a big box that encased lights. Everything went very smoothly and I was very impressed how much Kevin knew about home improvement projects. It made me excited for when we buy a house and have our own projects to do!

The weekend flew by! It was a busy one, but also a very fun one.

Hawaii

Aloha! We just got back from Hawaii and it was perfect! I can't think of a better way to spend spring break. Here is a recap of our trip in Oahu.

Day 1:
Our trip began Saturday morning at the San Antonio airport. There was a lot of sitting around this day. We had to switch terminals in LAX and our flight to Hawaii took right around 5 and a half hours. Once we arrived to Honolulu, we were greeted with lais and then we were on our way to the Hilton Hawaiian Village which is along Waikiki beach.

We stayed in the Rainbow Tower and our room had a great view. We had two balconies; one of them overlooked the ocean and the other overlooked Diamondhead. That night we went to a bar located in our hotel and there was a live band that played there every night. We made a visit to this bar more than once.

Day 2:
On Sunday, we woke up pretty early in the morning and went shopping around our hotel. The weather was really nice our whole trip. I thought it was cool in the shade and in the evenings there was always a breeze. We spent the afternoon laying out by the pool and beach. The water is so blue and the sand was pretty rocky. That evening, we walked along the beach and a little bit around town.

Day 3:
We started our Monday morning at the beach before we rented a car. We had a beautiful drive to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Everything is so green and the water is so clear and blue. Kevin and I were both surprised how low the speed limits are and that no one follows them. We spent most of our day exploring the Polynesian Cultural Center. While we were there we learned about the 7 Pacific Island cultures. There were demonstrations that taught you how to hula and Kevin was even the Chief in one performance!

On our way back to our hotel, we drove around the rest of the island. We were able to see the huge waves along the North Shore and even saw the Dole Pineapple Plantation. That evening we had a great dinner at our hotel while we listened to a band.

Day 4:
After eating a big breakfast on Tuesday, we drove to Pearl Harbor. There was a museum that we went to and learned more about the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor before we had a boat ride out to the memorial. The memorial was very impressive and sad to think about what occurred. Parts of the Arizona were visible and you could still see oil coming out of the ship. Random coincidence, but the Lubbock High band was also there.

When we got back from Pearl Harbor, we relaxed at the pool and beach again before getting ready for a Luau. The hula dancers could really shake their hips and the fire dancers were amazing!

Day 5:
We said goodbye to Hawaii very, very early Wednesday morning. We spent the whole day traveling to get back to San Antonio and even got to play on a few slot machines in the Vegas airport!

Kevin and I had a wonderful vacation. Hawaii is so pretty and a perfect place to relax. We hope that one day in the future we will be able to go back to Hawaii and visit a different island.

Oh Me, Oh My

This has been the year of sickness for me. I have had strep twice and a nasty virus that knocked me out for about four days. I don't think I have ever been to the doctor so much in such a short time period. I would think after 3 years of teaching all the germs of kids coughing and sneezing on me would have made my immune system rock strong, but this does not seem to be the case. Now I am oh so lucky to have an ear infection and laryngitis. I just want my voice back... I can't teach 5 and 6 year olds with no voice! Praying for good health in the future and that my husband stays healthy. He has been so good taking care of me. He really does love me in sickness and in health.
