Hawaii

Aloha! We just got back from Hawaii and it was perfect! I can't think of a better way to spend spring break. Here is a recap of our trip in Oahu.

Day 1:
Our trip began Saturday morning at the San Antonio airport. There was a lot of sitting around this day. We had to switch terminals in LAX and our flight to Hawaii took right around 5 and a half hours. Once we arrived to Honolulu, we were greeted with lais and then we were on our way to the Hilton Hawaiian Village which is along Waikiki beach.

We stayed in the Rainbow Tower and our room had a great view. We had two balconies; one of them overlooked the ocean and the other overlooked Diamondhead. That night we went to a bar located in our hotel and there was a live band that played there every night. We made a visit to this bar more than once.

Day 2:
On Sunday, we woke up pretty early in the morning and went shopping around our hotel. The weather was really nice our whole trip. I thought it was cool in the shade and in the evenings there was always a breeze. We spent the afternoon laying out by the pool and beach. The water is so blue and the sand was pretty rocky. That evening, we walked along the beach and a little bit around town.

Day 3:
We started our Monday morning at the beach before we rented a car. We had a beautiful drive to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Everything is so green and the water is so clear and blue. Kevin and I were both surprised how low the speed limits are and that no one follows them. We spent most of our day exploring the Polynesian Cultural Center. While we were there we learned about the 7 Pacific Island cultures. There were demonstrations that taught you how to hula and Kevin was even the Chief in one performance!

On our way back to our hotel, we drove around the rest of the island. We were able to see the huge waves along the North Shore and even saw the Dole Pineapple Plantation. That evening we had a great dinner at our hotel while we listened to a band.

Day 4:
After eating a big breakfast on Tuesday, we drove to Pearl Harbor. There was a museum that we went to and learned more about the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor before we had a boat ride out to the memorial. The memorial was very impressive and sad to think about what occurred. Parts of the Arizona were visible and you could still see oil coming out of the ship. Random coincidence, but the Lubbock High band was also there.

When we got back from Pearl Harbor, we relaxed at the pool and beach again before getting ready for a Luau. The hula dancers could really shake their hips and the fire dancers were amazing!

Day 5:
We said goodbye to Hawaii very, very early Wednesday morning. We spent the whole day traveling to get back to San Antonio and even got to play on a few slot machines in the Vegas airport!

Kevin and I had a wonderful vacation. Hawaii is so pretty and a perfect place to relax. We hope that one day in the future we will be able to go back to Hawaii and visit a different island.
